Job requisition for a new Secretary General

The Secretary General reports to the board of directors and is responsible for fundraising, finance, planning and programming in order to fulfill the mission of the organization. This is achieved by networking, establishing and maintaining partnerships, as well as promoting and representing the organization. The Secretary General is responsible for maintaining and managing current services as well as identifying and developing new programs & services that meet the needs and demands within the purpose of the organization.

Secretary General

Full-time position: 40 hours per week/160 hours per month. A significant amount of evening and weekend hours should be expected.

Salary: Negotiable

Benefits: Social insurances in accordance with Korean Labor Law (4대사회보험).

Contract period: 2 years with a three month trial period.

Workplace: Seoul-based G.O.A.’L office.

Job description:

  • Cultivating community by developing networks domestically and internationally

  • Financial responsibility - fundraising, budgeting, supervise accounting, annual reporting

  • Representing the organization professionally

  • Creating awareness about overseas adoptees in Korea and internationally

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Fulfill the purposes of the organization according to the Articles of Incorporation

  • Financial responsibility - fundraising, ensuring that the organization has a healthy financial state and make necessary financial decisions; maintain and increase memberships

  • Identify and develop new services and programming benefitting the members in Korea and abroad

  • Promote the organization, identify and collaborate with partners in Korea and abroad

  • Create awareness about adoptees in Korea and internationally

  • Human Resources - recruitment, training, and evaluation of staff. Assist & guide staff with tasking as needed

  • Administrative tasks as related to the above including but not limited to program proposals & documentation, accounting, and contracts

  • Other duties as required

Job requirements:

  • Korean overseas adoptee

  • Organized and responsible, having a strong desire to apply this to the further development of the adoptee/adoptive community and related services

  • Multi-tasker and has the ability to remain calm/level-headed under strong pressure and can remain neutral & professional when working with various partners

  • Advanced English language skills - Full professional working proficiency or higher

  • High-intermediate to advanced Korean language skills - Professional working proficiency or higher

  • Being multilingual is an advantage - English & Korean plus other languages

Educational requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or higher preferred

Preferred professional experience:

  • Experience with non-profit/non-governmental organizations (NPO/NGOs), fundraising, business administration, public administration, or similar

  • Experience in an international work environment

  • Experience working with Korean overseas adoptees

  • Working knowledge about Korean society and culture

  • Computer skills (Google Apps (G Suite), Hanword, and Microsoft Office) required
